For dot pt. one in assignment, do we (for each external and internal factor) relate it specifically to Qantas??
e.g. ‘Explain nature and sources of change that have demanded new responses & strategies from business managers…in Qantas?’
Yes. You must cover the theory and then specifically state how that theory is applied at Qantas (i.e. discuss the external and internal sources of change at Qantas – these can be from the Qantas case study provided but may also be supplemented by other research into Qantas that you may wish to do).

you know for the 2nd dot pt, ‘Evaluate how Qantas has responded to this change’
do we say what Qantas did to solve problems in dot pt 1? e.g. say external factor was economic influences. do we say how they responded to that, or do we just state the structural responses to change?
because it says evaluate, do i state the response then evaluate it?
Pt.2 is specifically about structural change. So what you can do is discuss the theory behind structural change, what structural changes were made by Qantas and then your evaluation. It doesn’t have to be exactly in that order but typically your evaluation will follow each key point or issue that you discuss.

so for pt. 1, we don’t state what Qantas did because of the changes? because it just says ‘explain nature and sources of change’
No. If you see the introduction to the task it says “with reference to Qantas and relevant theory”.
This is similar to the HSC which states in section IV of the paper “In your answer you will be assessed on how well you:

use your knowledge and relevant business case study/studies”.
So .. in short… you MUST refer to Qantas in all 3 sections of your report.

usually but if you are researching change management on the net or elsewhere then be aware that you need to stick to the Business Management & Change topic areas as outlined by the HSC syllabus not as defined or outlined by other bodies/authors.
could we write about Qantas’ privitisation (under legal and political influences), even though its not in the stimulus booklet?

Yep .. thats ok … the page limit is a guideline.

Yes you can. The booklet does mention privatisation 9check the history of Qantas).
Hi because the last question is a critical analysis this should be our main focus and in depth question right…
You have to give enough depth to all three parts of the question in order to adequately complete the assessment task. However the last question is certainly the hardest and will require more depth in your answer and this may result in you writing more in this section of the question.
For the critical analysis of ‘Inertia of Managers and Owners’, there isn’t much information on how Qantas experienced this. Can we just write a small analysis on that or should we research more on it?

Your choice. You don’t have to research further although you may if you wish. Even though the case study has only a bit of information in this section you may still be able to make several recommendations as part of your critical analysis thus making your analysis more detailed.

i know the page limit is only a guideline, but how long is too long?
should i try to cut down my 13 pages?
That is long but you only need to cut it down if you’ve been verbose. If another student has managed to express the same points you have in less space than you’ve used then they will receive a higher mark than you. On the other hand if you cannot reduce your words without reducing your evaluation/analysis then I would stick with the 13 pages.
